I recently visited Grand Cayman for a week of diving. On my visit, I found that one dive shop should be avoided by ALL Americans.
It is "Divers World" located at 7 Mile Shopping Center. I went in to that store on two different days, and dealt with two different employees. Both were absolutely rude.
On the first occasion, I attempted to ask the male employee for advice on locations for decent shore diving, and started my question with, "excuse me, I'm a tourist and would like to know if...", when I was cut short of finishing my question by the male employee stating, "No Shit". He must have been throwing that at me from me saying I was a tourist. I proceded to spend a hundred dollars in Cayman currency. Afterwards, I continued to look at stuff in the cases; patches, knives, and stuff... A lady came in to the store and asked the male employee if he could help her in picking out proper fins for her son. He replied "sure, in just a few minutes", where he stood there with his arms crossed staring at me until I physically left the store. He had no reason to be monitoring me, as I told him I was finished shopping and merely looking at things.
I didn't let this get to me, and returned a few days later to purchase some picture frames that I was unable to find anywhere else. This time it was a female employee working the counter. I said "Excuse me, but do you know which boxes contain the picture frames I am looking for?" She came around the counter, and said 3 times, "what did you call me?...what did you say?" OK; now I don't have a speech impediment unless the Brits feel that American English is not English proper.
The Brits on Cayman are good people, but the ones working at "Divers World" were not. After passing on these experiences to other Brits working on Cayman, many said they had heard of similar experiences from Americans about "Divers World", and they now tell American tourists to do ALL their shopping for scuba diving related items at "DIVERS SUPPLY". Simply put, if you are an American, avoid doing business with "Divers World". You have been warned!
